The weather in Arizona has been slightly odd lately. Wind, rain and cold weather just aren’t the typical words a person would use to describe Arizona. However this rare spat of weather has brought a plethora of beauty to this once desolate area that I call home.  My day started out with a bike ride though the back allies and canals around my home. I was on the hunt for a photo that was different then the typical water feature photos that I have been posting the past few days. I snapped a few photos of the canal itself, and a few more of the clouds and parks that surrounded this area but it wasn’t until I came to this back road crossing with the Union Pacific Railroad that I saw the picture I had to take. As I approached the crossing a began to see a sign that warned of a stop ahead. The stop sign trumped by the massive cloud formation in the background and the canal and power lines running from the foreground to the background, was a perfect image of infinite destinations in the distance. I instantly fell in love with this rather unorthodox and rather sketchy in nature location. I took the photo, packed up my camera and ventured home after a very satisfying bike ride.

The forecast today called for rain. Now in Arizona the news of rain is usually rare so I wanted to take this opportunity to capture the unique cloud formations that rain and storms bring into the valley. In case you haven’t been able to tell in my past work, I seem to be drawn toward water. Lately I have really been trying to get great shots of water with reflections in them. So I set out on a journey to find the perfect spot to capture an image that would give me motion, water with reflections, the mystical cloud formations and the sun set. Only one place came to my mind when I thought about these attributes; That place is the Riparian Preserve in Gilbert, AZ. The Riparian Preserve is place in the middle of the urban neighborhood’s of Gilbert, where  you can go and see nature, wildlife, birds, fish, plants and other animals in there native habitats. The Riparian Preserve also includes area for children to play, horses to be ridden, trails to be hiked and even an observatory where I was able to see the star “Betelgeuse”, (pronounced beetle juice), in the late afternoon hours of the day. It truly is a unique and wondrous place to visit. So there you have it… a little back story on the photo of the day pictured above. Enjoy!!

So today I woke up and decided that needed to find something to photograph other then an object. I love photographing objects but they take a lot of space to prep for and set-up for and I wasn’t really feeling like going through all that work today. Instead I decided to drive south. For those of you not from Arizona the southern part of the valley (Gilbert & Chandler) have doubled in size over the past few years making the area I once use to know very well, an unknown territory to me now. I drove close to the San Tan Mountain range until I saw water! Yes water in the desert! Ok so all the water here is man made but hey it al look really pretty. I made a few different spots such as a park in Chandler that is made to be an urban fishing lake. I didn’t even know that such a thing existed. The next stop I came to was a flood control basin that was very green and had a little bit o water in the bottom. The flood basin overlooked the San Tan Mountains making it the perfect location to capture a photo. The last stop on my trip was a new housing development. This particular housing development had the coolest water feature at the entrances that I have seen in a long time. A few photos later and I had the shot I was looking for. So there you have it… Your photo of the day…. Enjoy!!

Photo-A-Day ~~~~~~~~~~ Day 15

So today was the first day back at this Photo-A-Day project and it took a lot for me to pick it back up. For me the challenge comes from the fact that I have lived in this area all my life and I don’t really see to many things in this area that I find unique or beautiful. The up side is that because I feel this way about my current surroundings, I will have to be that much more creative in my photography. Moving on to the photo at hand… I have had this piece of glass for a while now and I have always wanted to photograph it in a cool way. So this evening I was holding it up in front of my computer monitor looking at it and trying to figure out how to photograph it. That is when the light bulb in my head went on and I saw the photo above. I ran and grabbed my camera and snapped a few photos and then rest is history…. Enjoy!!

My Leave of Absence….

Ok so as you all may have noticed I have taken about a week off from my Photo-A-Day project. I can assure you that my absence has not been intentional. Life tosses you curve balls from time to time and I was forced to deal with one of those curve balls this past week. Long story short… I am back in Arizona now and I will continue this project starting tomorrow and I will see it through until I have 365 days worth of photos. Thank you for your continued support. As a token of my appreciation the photo above is a bonus photo for you to enjoy. Thanks again and check back starting tomorrow to see a new photo everyday! Enjoy!!

Ok ok so my life isn’t really going down the drain but I have been put in a very ruff spot the past few days and I have to make a pretty hard life decision in the coming weeks. That being said I wasn’t really feeling like taking a photo today so instead I thought I would take a photo of how I feel at this moment. Enjoy!!
